AI Agents and Automation
Your First Claude Routine
Set up a Claude routine that runs on Anthropic's cloud while your laptop is closed. An AI employee working while you sleep, 10-minute setup.
A Claude Routine is an automated task that runs on Anthropic's cloud infrastructure on a schedule you define: time-based, event-based, or manual. No server to manage, no cron job to set up, no infrastructure to maintain. You write the instruction, set the trigger, and it runs while your laptop is closed. Setup takes about 10 minutes.
How to do it
- 1Go to claude.ai and open the Routines panel (requires Claude Pro or a Team plan)
- 2Click New Routine and write a specific task instruction. Be concrete about inputs, output format, and what good looks like
- 3Set your trigger: daily at a fixed time, on a recurring schedule, or manual-only
- 4Define the output destination: email, Google Sheet, Notion page, or plain text in the Routines panel
- 5Run a test pass immediately to confirm the output matches what you need before setting the live schedule
- 6Useful starting routines: daily news digest, pipeline summary, competitor scan, lead research brief, overnight report
Why it works
The value is not the AI, it is the timing. A routine that runs at 6am and has output waiting for you changes how you start a workday. It shifts you from reactive to structured without adding a single task to your morning.
